The team
The retirement of the inimitable Samuel Eto’o from international football in the wake of Brazil 2014 has left a very large gap to fill in the front line. The responsibility of leading the team is now shared by defender Nicolas Nkoulou, midfielder Stephane Mbia and the forwards Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Vincent Aboubakar and Benjamin Moukandjo.Yes, Cameroon are heavyweights in terms of continental prestige but they are once again riven with internal tensions, with several senior players including the Liverpool defender Joel Matip having and Maxim choupo declined their invitations to attend this Nations Cup.

The coach
Cameroon named Belgian Hugo Broos coach in February 2016, replacing interim coach Volker Finke, who took over in October 2015. This is Broos’ first spell as a coach at the international level, having coached domestically in Belgium at Bruges and Anderlecht.
