Week 37 NPFL Games promise to be a cracker (part 2)
In part 1, of this two part series, we dwelt on a few of the games scheduled to go down in week 37 simultaneously in different centres across the nation. The Nigeria Professional Football League will witness some mouth-watering contests as the season reaches its climax.
Table toppers, popularly called The flying Antelopes (Enugu Rangers)face a tricky road trip tie against already relegated Ikorodu United at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.
In part 1, we spoke of how this game is a ‘MUST NOT LOSE’ for Rangers if they truly wish to break the 32year League title drought. Such is the precarious nature of their lead at the top that even 3rd place Wikki tourist can find themselves at the top if they(Rangers) fail to take care of business today. Imama Amakapabo and his men must not underrate the relegated Ikorodu as their recent results in their adopted home of Abeokuta has been impressive. 1 loss in their last six games shows they are a team who found form a bit too late to save their Premier league status but can go down in history as deciders of the league title. A win for Rangers will see their fate lie comfortably in their hands leading up to the last games of week 38. A loss and they would be looking at the results of others who already are praying for them to slip up. Rangers will be without chinedu UDEAGHA and Papa Sane..due to knocks picked last week while Tope Olusesi is serving a 3match ban for violent conduct.
2nd placed Rivers United have a relatively easier tie against out of sorts Abia Warriors. Rivers must win to stay in with a shout, any think less than 3 points will simply not do. Expect the Warriors to put up a fight though currently 14th they will want to ensure their safety is not in doubt.
Wikki Tourist face a tough test in Ibadan vs Shooting stars knowing a win is the only feasible result they must get if winning this title is a genuine ambition. Shooting stars themselves are fighting for their lives in the NPFL and will surely not be in generous mode. Wikki after defeating Rivers United in Bauchi will do their chances no harm with another 3pints back to back..
Oriental rivals, FC IfeanyiUbah and Enyimba will clash in Nnewi. The home side who sit in fourth position are seeking a continental ticket, while champions Enyimba have nothing but pride to play for in this encounter. They have had a torrid season by their own high standards and probably cant wait for the season to end after a bitterly disappointing campaign.
In Makurdi, fifth placed Nasarawa United will tackle Akwa United.
The Solid Miners who sit in ninth position in the table have nothing to fight for, while their guests are also safe from relegation. A damp squib of a match if there ever was one.
Northern rivals, El-Kanemi Warriors and Plateau United will do battle in Maiduguri.
The two sides will play for Pride in the game as they have already secured their safety.
Sunshine Stars who were destroyed by Rangers in their previous fixture, will host relegation threatened side Warri Wolves in Akure,
while Heartland and Kano Pillars will do battle at the Dan Anyiam Stadium.
The Naze Millionaires who sit in 18th place
have a slim chance of escaping the drop. An outcome that will be a huge loss for the football mad capital of Owerri. The team have endured several low points this season which have led to dropped points along the way.
In the last fixture for the weekend, Niger Tornadoes will take on MFM FC at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja.
The two sides are flirting with the drop and a point will do neither side any good.
