Michael Carrick admitted this season could be his last at Manchester United.

The 35-year-old has been lauded for his calming influence alongside Paul Pogba in the four matches they have started and won alongside each other.

That is a partnership which is expected to continue this Saturday against Arsenal, although Jose Mourinho has largely preferred Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini to the veteran.

And Carrick – whose contract expires in June – concedes his future may not lie at Old Trafford.

‘There’s always a chance of that isn’t there?’ the central midfielder told Sky Sports. ‘I’m 35 now and need to be realistic.

‘It is such a great club with great players, you can’t take it for granted and thankfully I’m here this season and playing my part.

‘Hopefully I can play more of a part in the months ahead, strive for success and try to get some sort of silverware, because winning trophies is why we are here.’

Carrick has been at United a decade, is closing in on 300 Premier League appearances and still a huge fans’ favourite. United’s stars openly praise the help and insight he offers at Carrington.

He is flying through his coaching badges and suggested retirement was not off the table.

‘We are not even at Christmas yet and I just want to play as many games as I can and see how I’m feeling, how the body is feeling,’ Carrick added.

‘That is the biggest gauge to see if I can still do it, if I feel I can still do it and the manager feels that.

‘There is a lot of things to come into the equation, so I’m not going to be making any rash judgements just yet.’

Michael has been a great servant for United. With his deep lying midfield role conducting play behind the front 4..He was never the most flashy or spectacular player but As Sir Alex Ferguson once said Carrick is like your Comb you can do without it but with it you look so much better.
