League suspension reason for Enyimba loss
By now its not News that Two-time African champions Enyimba on Sunday lost 2-0 to Willamsville Athletic Club of Ivory Coast in their fourth group match of the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup played at the Stade Robert Champroux in Abidjan.
Goals from N’da Jean-Willy Kouakou and Guy Cedric Yameogo condemned the People’s Elephant to their second loss in the group stage of the competition.
They have now dropped to third in the log with six points from four matches. Williamsville top the table with seven points while CARA Brazzaville, who defeated Djoliba 1-0 on Saturday, are second with six points — with superior goals difference compared to Enyimba. Djoliba are bottom of the group with four points.
Enyimba head coach, Usman Abdallah, has attributed his side’s 2-0 defeat against Williamsville in the CAF Confederation Cup Group C encounter on Sunday to the poor physical condition of his players but is upbeat they will bounce back in subsequent games. speaking he said
” Our league has been off for some time now and the physical condition of my players were not at the required level, You need match sharpness in games like this and that aspect was sadly lacking for us” He however expressed optimism that his team will bounce back strongly and Qualify.
Enyimba won two of their matches and lost two. They beat Djoliba and Williamsville at home and lost to CARA Brazzaville and Williamsville away.
Going into the game, the seven-time Nigerian champions needed a win to secure their passage to the quarter-finals of the competition but the loss has further thrown open the group and Enyimba will need to do better in their last two matches to brighten their chances of progression from the group.
Enyimba struggled from the start of the match and found it difficult to create clear-cut chances as the hosts dominated.
Just like in Port Harcourt last week, Williamsville controlled the midfield and the duo Kouakou and Yameogo tormented the Enyimba defence.
The hosts forced Dauda to make a save in the sixth minute while Enyimba resorted to shooting from distance. Ibrahim Mustapha’s effort in the 13th minute went off target before Austin Oladapo picked out Mfon Udoh — who just returned from a long injury lay-off — in the 18-yard box five minutes later, but the striker saw his effort blocked by the home side’s defenders.
