GOOD NEWS GUNNERS AS WILSHERE INJURY IS NOT LONG TERM
JACK WILSHERE has revealed he expects to return “in a couple of days” after limping off injured against Chelsea.
The Arsenal star was forced to call it a day in Wednesday’s 0-0 Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg clash after unintentionally blocking a powerful shot at close-range with his ankle.
Gunners fans were understandably worried to see their skipper depart, with Wilshere arguably Arsenal’s best player on the pitch up until then.
The England midfielder has been enjoying a resurgence in recent times, leading to many backing him for a place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad this summer.
His sudden exit at Stamford Bridge sparked fears of another injury set-back.
But Wilshere insists he does not have a long-term problem and expects to be back in training shortly.
He posted on Twitter: “Thanks for all the messages and support after last night. Good news is I should be back in a couple of days.”
The news is sure to come as a relief for boss Arsene Wenger, who has just overseen Francis Coquelin’s surprise exit to Valencia Leaving Arsenal Short of options in the Midfield by 1 man.
Arsenal are already without Aaron Ramsey, who is still recovering from a hamstring injury suffered in early December.
And Mohamed Elneny could be the man to step up when Arsenal travel to Bournemouth on Sunday.
