Dutch-born former Nigeria coach, Jo Bonfrere has heaped plaudits on Super Eagles for dealing appropriately with Desert Foxes in Sunday’s Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo, Completesportsnigeria reports.

Bonfrere, who had predicted a tough clash against the Algerians, praised the Super Eagles’ performance on the night, especially the convincing scoreline as well as being able to capitalise on the defensive frailties of the North Africans in the match.

Bonfrere remarked that Algeria made the game much easier for the Super Eagles by falling back deep right from the kick off.

“It is a good result for the Super Eagles and I congratulate them,” Bonfrere said Wednesday when Completesportsnigeria put a call through to him, in his native country, Holland.

“They played well, they showed much hunger for victory and Algeria made it easier with a defensive tactics.

“It’s stupid to go back and defend against a Super Eagles team with great talents.

“When you defend too much, you make stupid mistakes, and Eagles punished them for that.”

The Dutch tactician who guided Nigeria U-23s to gold medal win in 1996 Atlanta Olympics said now that the Super Eagles are in the driving seat for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, they can only have themselves to blame if they miss the ticket.

“There is great quality in the Super Eagles. They are young, experienced and determined, and this has shown in their games so far.

“So far, their tactics is working as they are top on the group.

“If they push further hard, why not? Cameroon, the next match? It’s important the Eagles win.

“If they win, yes, they can win in (Uyo) Nigeria and after that, you are close to the ticket,” Bonfrere enthused

yougetmouth.com believes the key ingredient to bagging the qualification to Russia is the sustenance of the siege mentality currently obtainable amongst the entire staff and crew of the the Super eagles. The players for once in a long while look very interested and seem proud to be wearing the colours of the nation again. Tactically a lot more can be done but we know that sheer determination and will can push a team to levels of performance that confound tactics.
