The French midfielder suffered the injury to his right leg during the first half of Arsenal’s win over Chelsea.

Coquelin had a definitive scan on Monday, and the fears initially haboured for midfielder were allayed as he only suffered minor bruises to his knee and will only miss a fortnight ..Three weeks at the most

The 25-year-old left the Emirates Stadium in a knee brace on Saturday and manager Arsene Wenger admitted the injury looked ‘bad’.

Coquelin will certainly miss Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Basel and next weekend’s trip to Burnley but the previous fears that he had re-ruptured his knee ligaments like he did last season that kept him out for 8 weeks have been quashed.

This will come as great news for Arsenal fans as Coquelin provides great screening for the still nascent Mustafi and Koscielny Partnership. His tackling ability and interceptions/break up of play is crucial to the way the gunners play. As his winning of the ball on the opponents transition allows Arsenal find spaces on the counter.
