ANTHONY JOSHUA VS TYSON FURY IS ON SUMMER 2018
ANTHONY JOSHUA is ready to fight Tyson Fury this summer.
Gypsy King Fury texted world heavyweight champ AJ over the weekend and asked for an April showdown.
But promoter Eddie Hearn believes a huge summer clash is the No 1 option.
Hearn said: “I think the Fury fight is more likely than the Deontay Wilder fight. I spoke to Tyson this morning, he got in touch with AJ at the weekend, and he is asking to fight in April.\
“We are prepared to sit with Tyson Fury and make the Joshua fight now for the summer, or for the winter of 2018.
“Tyson wants 60-40, that’s probably not going to happen. But I know, having spoken to AJ, he would be generous with the split, because he wants the fight. He knows how big the fight is.”
The peoples’s hero Joshua, the undefeated WBA and IBF king, wants to be sure that Fury, 29, is ready to fight first.
The former world champ has been out of the ring for two years following anti-doping and medical issues.
The Mancunian says he is in the process of applying for a licence but boxing chiefs are still waiting for up-to-date medical records from the Fury camp.
Promoter Hearn added: “We can’t base our moves on a guy that still has six or seven stone to lose, doesn’t have a British Boxing Board of Control licence and that hasn’t boxed for two years. But we will definitely see how it goes.
We want to see him ready. We can’t rely on Fury until we actually see it. But we are ready to give him a huge fight in April/May and then we will make the fight with Joshua for the summer.
“We would absolutely love to make the fight. AJ would absolutely love to fight Fury and we are willing to open those negotiations now.”
Joshua, 28, is planning a unification showdown against New Zealand’s WBO champion Joseph Parker, 26, next.
An announcement is expected on date and location next week.
