The Venue was the International Conference Center, Abuja. Friday, 9 March, 2017. The Crème de la Crème in the Nigeria Socio-Political landscape under the auspices of UNICEF, in conjunction with Blaugrana Sports International  (BSI),gathered to witness the award ceremony in honour of Wife of the President – Mrs. Aisha Buhari – for her exemplary work towards improving Child and Women Education not just in Nigeria but Outside of it as well.


The amiable First lady’s efforts to alleviate the sufferings of Vulnerable  Children and Women in less privileged locations across the Continent of Africa has not gone unnoticed and as described by Country Representative, UNICEF Nigeria, Mr. Mohamed Fall, ‘Mrs. Buhari stood tall after a thorough appraisal and rigorous analysis by the committee of the global body. He said, “It gladdens our hearts that this prestigious award will be given to her tonight in the presence of a first-class international Audience.

It is in true recognition of her humanitarian service to humanity. The First Lady’s “Future Assured Programme” is one of the flagship projects that completely align with UNICEF’s vision for children and beyond. Hence, it is the body’s way of saying, ‘Continue with the good works; we are solidly behind you.’”

This award is a special recognition for Mrs. Buhari’s advocacy work towards the promotion and development of the Nigerian Girl-child. Also, the “UNICEF Legends for Children” event which is being held is also to raise awareness and galvanise the Nigerian corporate sector and the general community at large to collaborate and assist in providing quality basic education and infrastructure for the public schools.”


In his take, the Chairman, Blaugrana Group International, Leslie Oghomienor extolled the Virtues of the recipient of the award and highlighted the significance of the event He said:

“ For us at Blaugrana Group International this is the time to act to help improve our future by helping these suffering children, knowing that indirectly we are securing the lives of our own.”

The partnership involves many other appendages of collaboration where by well-defined and articulated projects in line with the vision of the bodies would be identified and supported annually, in the encouragement of existing projects in pursuance of collective efforts to better the world and Nigeria in particular.

Fall of UNICEF Nigeria, Hon. Demola Seriki  (representing Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Leslie Oghomienor (Chairman, BSI), Representatives of Aiteo Group, Nexim and Sifax Group, Zahra Buhari and Ahmed Indimi, Honorable Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, members of the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum, amongst many others.

Besides the award presentation to  Mrs. Buhari – The Occasion also saw Awards Handed to ex Members of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Like Augustin Eguavoen , Mutiu Adepoju, Taribo West, Victor Agali, and Victor Ikpeba for their Unforgettable contributions to the game in Nigeria.Several Donors were also Honoured on a night of Glitz and Prestige.
